The Village of Tomorrow
Walk through the CCAF African Village
A hopeful picture of the future we can build together. Choose any place to see what happens there and the part you could play. Every place is also listed below the map.
Everyday life in the village, and the part you can play
Clean energy and water
Wind turbines and solar fields feed a shared microgrid; a water tower stores clean water and the river is protected, not polluted.
Your part: Become an engineer or technician, maintain a system, or join a river clean-up.
Health centre
A solar-powered clinic with a maternity wing, telemedicine links to specialist hospitals, an electric ambulance and community health workers who visit every home.
Your part: Train as a nurse, doctor or community health worker, or support health education.
Neighbourhood school
Bright, cool classrooms close to home, where children learn in their own languages as well as in global ones.
Your part: Teach, read with a child, or tutor after school.
Market square
Farmers, makers and traders under shade canopies, with solar cold storage, mobile payments and electric delivery carts.
Your part: Start an enterprise, mentor young traders, or buy from local producers.
Homes and gardens
Homes built from local earth and timber that stay cool without air-conditioning, with rooftop gardens, solar panels and rainwater tanks.
Your part: Design and build sustainable homes, or be a good neighbour.
Play park
A playground and football pitch on safe, lit paths, open to every child, including children with disabilities.
Your part: Coach a team, organise games, or help keep the park safe.
Our guiding philosophy
Sankofa: go back and fetch what is needed for the journey ahead
Sankofa is an Akan concept from present-day Ghana. Every path in the village follows six steps, from remembering to contributing.
1RememberEncounter history, ancestral memory, oral narratives and living traditions.
2QuestionExamine assumptions and explore different perspectives.
3UnderstandWeigh evidence, context and scholarly interpretation.
4ReconnectLink what you learn to identity, family and community.
5TransformReflect, build skills and change perspective.
6ContributePreserve a story, share knowledge, serve the future.
