Survival of this African Child

Writing down my life
In a book, has ensued
Bitter lucked pains
But I still will write

Giant of Africa
A place of birth known to
Those in Nigeria
And diaspora

I’ve lived to see men ride on horses
And thrown down later on
Trust betrayed and life
Mislaid

Our fight for our right everyday
As the children of Africa
Have not been taken serious
Malnutrition takes it’s stand
Like a red cap chief

Recent tales of woe
Preached in the news
Weakens my soul
But the will to live
Has kept me surviving

Though tales of greatness
Have been told times without number
I still haven’t seen
This mysteries talked of old

Blackness abhord
Coloured they call us
But isn’t it the heart
That judges who the man is?

All in all
I still have to keep on
Striving
And surviving

At least if the land swallows all
I’ll gather more
And if I can’t reach for all
I’ll still keep
Surviving.

Writing down my life
In a book, has ensued
Bitter lucked pains
But I still will write
