Al-Sirah al-Hilaliyyah tells, in Arabic verse, of the tenth-century migration of the Bani Hilal from the Arabian Peninsula to North Africa. Poets in Egypt have sung it since at least the fourteenth century, accompanying themselves on a drum or on the two-stringed rabab.
UNESCO inscribed the epic on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2008. Its film is at the top of this page.
