Africa Memorial Day 2025: History, Justice, Awakening
Africa Memorial Day 2025, hosted by the Correct Connect Africa Foundation (CCAF), was not just commemorative; it was catalytic. Held at the prestigious Oriental Hotel, Lagos, the event roared with ancestral pride, cultural splendour, and a deep call for justice under the transformative theme: “Historical Consciousness and Human Justice.”

From the vibrant African Carpet reception to the emotionally charged tributes, AMD2025 was a sweeping symphony of history, identity, and hope. Guests in regal African attire walked through exhibitions of heritage, handwoven fabrics, historic artefacts, and traditional games, all beneath the resonant rhythms of ancestral drums.

The opening Rite of Remembrance, led by Olufunke Babaleye and Somachi Ogbedeto, evoked solemn reflection as the crowd stood, honouring African heroes and heroines. The words of Rev. Fr. Anthony Aleakwe Odior, CCAF’s Executive Guardian & Chief Advocate, echoed across the hall: “There must be a historical consciousness for the existence of an awakened Africa …. Let us make Africa Memorial Day a public holiday across the continent, a day of remembrace, unity and pride.”

Edmond Obilo, distinguished thought leaders – Femi Falana (SAN), Dr. Augustine Agugua, Timothy Oluseye Adegunle, and Amb. Nneka Moses delivered bold, urgent reflections on Historical Consciousness and Human Justice. They challenged the audience to reclaim African dignity through legal reform, youth-driven innovation, responsible media narratives, and a fearless commitment to historical truth-telling.

Art met activism in performances like “The Awakening” by BLC and CCAF Teens, a raw and rhythmic portrayal of resistance and rebirth. The gripping drama “Nyso & The Egg,” produced by Elvina Ibru, fused folklore with lessons on good governance and collective destiny.

The presence of icons such as Emperor & Empress Ibe, Joke Silva (MFR), Dede Mabiaku, Isaac and Nneka Moses, Jay Jituboh, Gondons, Obukome Ibru, The Sobayos, The Thorpes, Jay Jituboh, Yemi Disu. Omobayowa Alabi, Dr. Ngozi Omambala, Mayo Makinde, and many others elevated the event into a cultural summit of visionaries and changemakers.

Closing with a resonant vote of thanks by Olufunmilola D.Z. Olota, AMD2025 left attendees not just inspired, but charged, charged to remember. To resist. To rebuild.

Africa Memorial Day is no longer just a date on the calendar. It is a living legacy, a movement reclaiming the stolen narratives of a continent and reimagining its future through the lens of justice, pride, and truth.
